A survey of the Qur’anic passages that show the word “faith” (īmān) is a term of praise and that the believers will be in Paradise: Allah the Exalted says, “Is the one who is a believer like the one who is defiantly disobedient? They are not equal” (Sūrah al-Sajdah, 32:18); He also says, “Allah will surely make evident those who believe, and He will surely make evident the hypocrites” (Sūrah al-ʿAnkabūt, 29:11); and He says, “Indeed, the hypocrites—they are the defiantly disobedient” (Sūrah al-Tawbah, 9:67). How, then, can someone be at once a believer, a flagrantly sinful wrong-doer, and a hypocrite?
