Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Ḥafṣ related: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḥafṣ narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAdī narrated to us; he said: ʿAlī ibn Naṣr narrated to us; he said: Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad al-Ramlī narrated to us, from Yaḥyā ibn ʿĪsā, who said: al-Awzāʿī remarked, “Whoever believes yet disobeys, his faith resembles the faith of Iblis more than it resembles the faith of Gabriel, for Gabriel believed and obeyed, whereas Iblis believed and disobeyed.”
