1833 – Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn reported: Ibn Abī Mūsā al-Antākī narrated to us; he said: Ṭāhir ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn al-Tamīmī narrated to me; he said: ʿAlī ibn al-Nasāʾī narrated to me, from Wakīʿ ibn al-Jarrāḥ, who said:
“ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Laylā, al-Ḥasan ibn Ṣāliḥ, Sufyān ibn Saʿīd al-Thawrī, and Sharīk ibn ʿAbd Allāh once gathered together. They sent for Abū Ḥanīfah, and when he arrived they asked him, ‘What is your verdict on a man who has married his mother, murdered his father, and drunk wine from his father’s skull?’ He answered, ‘He is a believer.’
Ibn Abī Laylā said, ‘I will never accept your testimony for anything.’ Al-Ḥasan ibn Ṣāliḥ declared, ‘My face is forbidden from your face; I shall never look at you again.’ Sharīk said, ‘If the matter were in my hands, I would strike off your head.’ And al-Thawrī said to him, ‘Your speech is prohibited to me forever.’”
