And Muhammad informed us. Uthman informed us. Hanbal said: Abu Abd Allah narrated to me. Abu Umar, the blind man, narrated to me, from Hammad ibn Salamah, from Ata ibn al-Sa'ib, who said: Sa'id ibn Jubayr mentioned the Murji'ah and gave the following parable about them:
“Their likeness is that of the Sabians. They came to the Jews and asked, ‘What is your religion?’ They replied, ‘Judaism.’ They asked, ‘Who is your prophet?’ They replied, ‘Moses.’ They asked, ‘What, then, is for those who follow you?’ They replied, ‘Paradise.’ Then they came to the Christians and asked, ‘What is your religion?’ They replied, ‘Christianity.’ They asked, ‘What is your scripture?’ They replied, ‘The Gospel.’ They asked, ‘Who is your prophet?’ They replied, ‘Jesus.’ They asked, ‘What, then, is for those who follow you?’ They replied, ‘Paradise.’ They said, ‘So we are between two religions.’”
