164—‘Isa ibn ‘Ali informed us. He said: ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad informed us. He said: ‘Ali ibn al-Ja‘d informed us. He said: Shu‘bah informed us, from ‘Abd al-Malik, who said: I heard Ziyad narrating from Rib‘i ibn Hirash, who said:

Hudhayfah said at the time of his death, “There were many days when death came upon me and I had no doubt. But today I have become entangled in matters concerning which I do not know where I stand.”

He said: And he advised Abu Mas‘ud, saying, “Hold fast to what you know, and do not shift your stance in Allah’s religion.”
