1792 — Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr informed us: Muhammad ibn Makhlad informed us: Abu Musa Harun ibn Mas'ud al-Dahhan narrated to us from his book. He said: Abd al-Samad ibn Hassan narrated to us. Sufyan al-Thawri said:
“Ahl al-Sunnah say: ‘Faith consists of speech and action,’ for fear that they might declare themselves pure. No deed is valid without faith, and there is no faith without action. If someone asks, ‘Who is your imam in this matter?’ then say: ‘Sufyan al-Thawri.’”
