1766—Ahmad ibn Mahmud ibn Idris informed us: Muhammad ibn Ya‘qub narrated to us: al-Rabi‘ ibn Sulayman narrated to us: al-Shafi‘i informed us: Malik informed us, from Abd Allah ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Ma‘mar, from Abu Yunus, the freedman of Aishah, from Aishah, that a man said—while she was listening—“O Messenger of Allah, I begin the morning in a state of major ritual impurity, yet I wish to fast.”
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “I too begin the morning in a state of major ritual impurity while wishing to fast; then I bathe, and thereafter I observe the fast.”
The man said, “You are not like us: Allah has forgiven you your former and latter sins.” The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, became angry and said, “By Allah, I hope that I am the most fearful of Allah among you and the most knowledgeable of what I must guard against.”
Muslim transmitted it through the hadith of Isma‘il ibn Ja‘far.
