He said: Muhammad ibn Yazid informed us, from Isma‘il ibn Abi Khalid, from Thabit ibn Qutbah, who said: I heard Ibn Mas‘ud delivering a sermon and saying: “O people, adhere to obedience and the congregation, for together they are the means—at their root—of holding fast to Allah’s rope, which He has commanded. What you dislike in the congregation is better than what you love in division.”
