1736 — Isa ibn Ali reported to us: Abdullah ibn Muhammad al-Baghawi said: Ibn Zanjawayh reported to us; Abd al-Razzaq reported to us, saying: I heard Sufyan, Ibn Jurayj, and Ma'mar say: “Faith is speech and action; it increases and decreases.” Abd al-Razzaq was then asked, “What do you say?” He replied, “I have not encountered anyone in my travels except that this was his view.”
Abd al-Razzaq also related that Sufyan said: “We consider ourselves believers; but as for our standing before Allah, we do not know what our condition is.”
