1718 — Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn al-Qasim informed us: Ahmad ibn al-Hasan narrated to us; Ja‘far al-Sā’igh narrated to us; Sa‘id ibn Sulayman narrated to us; ‘Abbād—that is, Ibn al-‘Awwām—narrated to us, from Yahya ibn Sa‘id, from ‘Abdullah ibn Hubayrah al-Misri, who said:
Abu al-Darda’ wrote to Salman, saying, “Come to the Holy Land.” Abu al-Darda’ was serving as a judge in al-Sham, so Salman wrote back to him: “Land does not sanctify anyone; rather, it is a person’s deeds that sanctify him.”
