1688 — Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Abbas authorized me to transmit it. Shuayb ibn Muhammad said: Nasr ibn Dawud ibn Tawq narrated to us. He said: Abu Ubayd said: Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan related it to me, from Thawr ibn Yazid, from Khalid ibn Ma'dan, from a man, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“Islam has its landmarks and signposts, like the markers of a road. Among them are: to believe in Allah and not associate anything with Him; to establish the prayer; to give zakat; to fast Ramadan; to make pilgrimage to the House; to enjoin what is right; to forbid what is wrong; to greet your family with peace when you enter upon them; and to greet people with peace when you pass by them. Whoever abandons any of these has abandoned a portion of Islam; and whoever casts all of them aside has turned his back on Islam.”
