1663 — ʿUbayd Allah ibn Muhammad narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Samad ibn ʿAli narrated to us; al-Husayn ibn Ishaq narrated to us. He said: Abu al-Tahir ibn al-Sarh narrated to us. He said: Khalid ibn Nizar ⦗991⦘ narrated to us. He said: Yasin Abu Khalaf al-Makki narrated to us, from Hud ibn ʿAta’, from Simak ibn Zumayl, who said: I came to Ibn ʿAbbas and said, “O Ibn ʿAbbas, I find within myself something such that I would rather fall from the sky, be snatched away by birds, or be carried off by the wind to a far-off place than speak of it.” He said, “Indeed, the Prophet of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ‘That is pure faith.’ If anyone could have escaped it, the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, would have escaped it. Yet the Prophet of Allah was affected by it, so Allah, may He be exalted, revealed: ‘So if you are in doubt about what We have revealed to you, then ask those who have been reading the Scripture before you.’”
