142—Muhammad informed us: Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn Fayruz al-Anmati narrated to us; Amr ibn Ali narrated to us; Hatim ibn Wardan narrated to us; Ayyub narrated to us, from Ghaylan ibn Jarir, from Ziyad ibn Riyah, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“Whoever withdraws from obedience and separates from the community, his death is a death of the pre-Islamic era of ignorance. Whoever rises against my ummah, striking its righteous and wicked alike, sparing none of its believers and honoring no covenant made with it, is not of me. And whoever dies beneath a banner of blind partisanship, becoming angry for tribalism or fighting for tribalism, his death is a death of the pre-Islamic era of ignorance.” ⦗110⦘
The wording is that of Amr ibn Ali. Muslim transmitted it in the narration of Hammad from Ayyub.
