1639 — Jaʿfar ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Yaʿqub narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Harun al-Ruyani narrated to us. He said: Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us. He said: ʿAbd al-Aʿla narrated to us, from Dawud ibn Abi Hind, from ʿAtaʾ al-Khurasani, from Yahya ibn Yaʿmur, from ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿUmar, who said:

A man came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, “Messenger of Allah, what is faith?” He replied, “It is ⦗983⦘ to believe in Allah, His angels, His Books, His messengers, the resurrection after death, Paradise and Hellfire, and divine decree—its good and its evil.”

He asked, “If I do that, then have I believed?” He replied, “Yes.”
