1637 — Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Ya‘qub and ‘Ali ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Umar narrated to us; they said: ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hatim narrated to us; he said: al-Hasan ibn ‘Arafah narrated to us; he said: Jarir ibn ‘Abd al-Hamid narrated to us, from Suhayl ibn Abi Salih, from ‘Abd Allah ibn Dinar, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“Faith has sixty-odd—or seventy-odd—branches. The best of them is the declaration, ‘There is no god worthy of worship except Allah,’ and the least of them is removing something harmful from the road. Modesty is a branch of faith.”
