1623 — ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar and Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī al-Sāwī informed us. They said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Ḥātim informed us. He said: Saʿd ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥakam narrated to us. He said: Abū Zurʿah Wahb Allāh ibn Rāshid narrated to us. He said: Ḥaywah narrated to me. He said: Ibn al-Hādī narrated to me. He said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Dīnār narrated to me, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar, from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, who said:
“I have not seen anyone more capable of overcoming a man of sound intellect than you women, despite your deficiency in intellect and religion.”
A woman said, “O Messenger of Allah, what is this deficiency in intellect and religion?” He said:
“As for the deficiency in intellect, the testimony of two women is equivalent to the testimony of one man; this is the deficiency in intellect. And a woman remains for nights without praying, and she breaks her fast during the month of Ramadan; this is part of the deficiency in religion.”
Muslim and Abū Dāwūd recorded it through the narration of Ibn Wahb.
