1597—Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Hafs al-Harawi narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Salamah narrated to us; Khalaf ibn Muhammad narrated to us: I heard al-Husayn ibn Muhammad al-Waddah and Makki ibn Khalaf ibn Affan—both of whom said: We heard Muhammad ibn Isma‘il say: “I wrote from more than a thousand scholars, and I recorded only from those who said: Faith consists of speech and action. I did not record from anyone who said: Faith is merely speech.”
١٥٩٧ - أنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَفْصٍ الْهَرَوِيُّ، قَالَ: نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَ: ثنا خَلَفُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الْحُسَيْنَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ الْوَضَّاحَ، وَمَكِّيَّ بْنَ خَلَفِ بْنِ عَفَّانَ، قَالَا: سَمِعْنَا مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، يَقُولُ: " كَتَبْتُ عَنْ أَلْفِ نَفَرٍ مِنَ الْعُلَمَاءِ وَزِيَادَةٍ وَلَمْ أَكْتُبْ إِلَّا عَمَّنْ قَالَ: الْإِيمَانُ قَوْلٌ وَعَمَلٌ، وَلَمْ أَكْتُبْ عَمَّنْ قَالَ: الْإِيمَانُ قَوْلٌ "
