1566 — Muhammad ibn Abd Allah narrated to us; Suwayd ibn Sa‘id narrated to us. And Muhammad ibn Ghalib narrated to us; Duhaym narrated to us. And Muhammad ibn Abd Allah narrated to us; Abd al-Rahman ibn Yunus narrated to us; Suwayd ibn Abd al-Aziz narrated to us; ... ibn Ajlan narrated to us, from Sulaym Abu Amir, who said: I heard Abu Bakr say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, instructed me, “Go out and proclaim: Whoever testifies that there is no god worthy of worship but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah will enter Paradise.”

So I went out, and Umar met me. He questioned me, and I told him. He said, “Return to the Messenger of Allah and tell him: Let the people continue to act, for if they hear this, they will rely upon it.” I informed the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, of Umar’s words, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me, “Umar has spoken the truth, so remain silent.”
