1564 — Abd Allah ibn Muslim ibn Yahya informed us; al-Hasan ibn Isma‘il informed us; Muhammad ibn Abd Allah al-Mukharrimi narrated to us; Mu‘adh ibn Hisham narrated to us, from his father, from Qatadah, from Anas: The Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, had Mu‘adh riding behind him on the saddle when he said, “O Mu‘adh ibn Jabal!”
I replied, “At your service, O Messenger of Allah, and at your disposal.”
He said, “O Mu‘adh ibn Jabal!”
I replied, “At your service, O Messenger of Allah, and at your disposal.”
He said, “O Mu‘adh ibn Jabal!”
I replied, “At your service, O Messenger of Allah, and at your disposal.”
He said, “No servant testifies that there is no god worthy of worship but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah except that Allah forbids him to the Fire.”
He said, “O Messenger of Allah, shall I not tell the people of this?”
He replied, “Then they would rely upon it.”
Mu‘adh disclosed it at the time of his death, out of fear of sin. ⦗923⦘ Al-Bukhari and Muslim recorded it in the hadith of Mu‘adh.
