1561 — Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Abd Allah informed us; Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Misri informed us; Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Malik narrated to us, from Abu al-Zinad, from al-A‘raj, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Faith is not mere outward display, nor wishful thinking; rather, it is what becomes firmly rooted in the heart and is confirmed by deeds. By Him in whose Hand is my soul, no one will enter Paradise except through a deed that he performs with excellence.” They said, “O Messenger of Allah, what does it mean to perform it with excellence?” He said: “To carry it out thoroughly.”
