1548 — Abd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad ibn Khayran al-Hamdani, in Rayy, informed us: Muhammad ibn al-Mu'alla al-Shunayzi narrated to us; Ya'qub al-Dawraqi narrated to us; Yahya ibn Abi Bukayr narrated to us. [Alternative chain]
1549 — And Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Abbas informed us: Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim al-Bazzaz narrated to us; Umar ibn Shabbah narrated to us; Yahya ibn Abi Bukayr narrated to us; Abu Ja'far al-Razi narrated to us; al-Rabi' ibn Anas narrated to us, saying: I heard Anas ibn Malik say that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“Whoever departs this world upon sincere devotion...”
In Ya'qub al-Dawraqi’s narration, it reads: “with sincere devotion to Allah and worshipping Him”; while in Umar ibn Shabbah’s narration: “upon sincere devotion to Allah in worshipping Him, associating no partner with Him, establishing the prayer, and giving zakah—he departs it while Allah is pleased with him.”
Anas said: “This is the religion of Allah which the messengers brought and conveyed from their Lord, before the confusion of reports and the divergence of vain desires.” Its confirmation is found in the Book of Allah, in one of the last revelations, where He says:
“If they repent”—that is, if they renounce idols and their worship—“and establish prayer and give zakah, then let them go on their way.” [Surah al-Tawbah 9:5]
And He says in another verse:
“If they repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, then they are your brothers in faith.” [Surah al-Tawbah 9:11]
The wording of the two reports is identical except for what I have indicated.
