1544 — Isa ibn Ali informed us: Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Abd al-Aziz informed us; Mus'ab ibn Abd Allah narrated to us; Malik ibn Anas narrated to us.

1545 — Ja'far ibn Abd Allah informed us: Muhammad ibn Harun al-Ruyani informed us; Muhammad ibn Bashshar narrated to us; Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Malik, from his uncle Abu Suhayl, from his father, who heard Talhah ibn Ubayd Allah say:

“An Arab from the desert came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, what is Islam?’ He said, ‘Five prayers in every day and night.’ He said, ‘Am I obliged to perform any other than these?’ He said, ‘No.’

“He asked him about fasting in Ramadan and said, ‘Am I obliged to observe any other than it?’ He said, ‘No.’ He mentioned zakah to him, and he said, ‘Am I obliged to give anything other than it?’ ⦗916⦘ He said, ‘No.’

“He said, ‘By Him Who sent you with the truth, I shall neither add to them nor diminish from them.’ The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, ‘He will prosper if he is truthful.’
