A man came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, “O Messenger of Allah, what is Islam?” He said, “That you establish the prayer, give zakah, and make pilgrimage to the House.”
He said, “If I do that, will I then have submitted to Islam?” He said, “Yes.”
He said, “Then what is faith?” He said, “That you believe in Allah, His angels, His Books, His Messengers, the resurrection after death, Paradise, Hellfire, and divine decree, its good and its evil.”
He said, “If I do that, will I then have believed?” He said, “Yes.”
