1524 — Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Abbas informed us. Yahya ibn Muhammad ibn Sa'id narrated to us. Al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan narrated to us. Ibn Abi Adi informed us. Rashid Abu Muhammad narrated to us, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, from Umm al-Darda, from Abu al-Darda, who said: My close friend, Abu al-Qasim, peace and blessings be upon him, enjoined nine things upon me: “Do not associate anything whatsoever with Allah, even if you are cut to pieces and burned. Do not deliberately abandon a prayer, for whoever deliberately abandons the prayer has forfeited the covenant of protection. Do not drink wine, for it is the key to every evil. Obey your parents; even if they command you to leave your worldly possessions, then leave them for their sake. Do not dispute with those in authority over their authority, even if you consider yourself more entitled to it. Do not flee from the advancing battle line, even if you perish. Spend on your family according to your means. Do not refrain from disciplining them, and make them fear Allah.”
