1481 — ʿIsa ibn ʿAli informed us. He said: ʿAbd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Baghawi informed us. He said: ʿAli ibn al-Jaʿd narrated to us. He said: Shuʿbah informed us, from Husayn and ʿAmr ibn Murrah. Through another chain:
1482 — Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman informed us. He said: Ahmad ibn ʿIsa ibn al-Sikkin informed us. He said: Ishaq ibn Zurayq narrated to us. He said: al-Juddi—that is, ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Ibrahim—narrated to us. He said: Shuʿbah informed us, from ʿAmr ibn Murrah and Husayn ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman, from Salim ibn Abi al-Jaʿd, from Jabir, who said:
“We were overcome by thirst, so we appealed to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He called for a basin containing water and placed his hand in it.”
ʿAmr ibn Murrah said in his narration: “Until we performed ablution and drank.” He then said, “Take [water] in the name of Allah.” Husayn said: “Until we performed ablution, and it sufficed us.”
He was asked, “How many of you were there?” He replied, “Had we been one hundred thousand, it would have sufficed us; yet we were one thousand five hundred.”
