1476—‘Isa ibn ‘Ali ibn ‘Isa informed us: ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-‘Aziz informed us, saying: Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah, Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allah, and Ibrahim ibn Sa‘id al-Tabari narrated to us; they said: Abu Usamah narrated to us, from Mujalid, from Abu al-Waddak, from Abu Sa‘id, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to deliver his sermon beside a palm trunk. ⦗882⦘ Then a Roman man came to him and said, ‘I will make you a pulpit upon which you may deliver your sermons.’ So he made for him this pulpit which you see. When he stood upon it to deliver the sermon, the trunk moaned as a she-camel moans for her young. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then came down to it and embraced it, whereupon it fell silent.”
He said: “He then ordered that it be buried and that a grave be dug for it.”
