1460 — Abd al-Rahman ibn Umar informed us: Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Ya'qub informed us. He said: My grandfather, Ya'qub ibn Shaybah, narrated to us. He said: Abu Bakr Yahya ibn Hammad narrated to us. He said: Abu Awanah narrated to us, from al-Mughirah, from Abu al-Duha, from Masruq, from Abdullah, who said: “The moon split during the time of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. The people said, ‘This is magic worked upon you by Ibn Abi Kabshah. Ask the travelers when they arrive among you: if what they report is like what you saw, then he has spoken the truth; otherwise, it is magic worked upon you by Ibn Abi Kabshah.’ Then the travelers arrived, and they asked them. They replied, ‘Yes, we saw it: the moon had indeed split.’” ⦗875⦘ Al-Bukhari recorded it and cited it as corroborating evidence.
