“I saw the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, twice in the market of Dhu al-Majaz, wearing a red cloak and calling out at the top of his voice: ‘O people, say: There is no god worthy of worship but Allah, and you will prosper!’
“A man was following him, throwing stones at him until his ankles and feet were bloodied, while saying: ‘O people, do not obey him, for he is a liar.’ I asked, ‘Who is this?’ They said, ‘A young man from Banu ‘Abd al-Muttalib.’ I asked, ‘Who is this man accompanying him, following him and pelting him?’ They said, ‘This is his uncle, ‘Abd al-‘Uzza—Abu Lahab.’”
