1411 — Muhammad ibn al-Husayn al-Farisi informed us. He said: Ahmad ibn Sa‘id al-Thaqafi informed us. He said: Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Dhuhali narrated to us. He said: ‘Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, from ⦗837⦘ Ma‘mar, from al-Zuhri, who said: Abu Salama informed me, from Jabir, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, speaking about the pause in Revelation. He said in his account:
“While I was walking, I heard a voice from the sky. I raised my head and saw the angel who had come to me at Hira seated upon a chair between heaven and earth. I was terrified of him and fell to my knees. Then I returned and said, ‘Wrap me up!’ So they wrapped me up, and Allah revealed: ‘O you who are wrapped up in garments, arise and warn, and magnify your Lord, and purify your garments, and shun defilement’ [al-Muddaththir 74:1–5]—that is, the idols—before the prayer was made obligatory.”
Al-Bukhari and Muslim both transmitted it.
