1401 — Ja‘far ibn Abdullah ibn Ya‘qub informed us: Muhammad ibn Harun informed us; Abdah ibn Abdullah al-Saffar related to us; Mu‘awiyah ibn Hisham related to us; Sufyan al-Thawri related to us, from Yazid ibn Abi Ziyad, from Abdullah ibn al-Harith, from al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib, who heard something and complained of it to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. He said: “Who am I?” They replied, “You are the Messenger of Allah.” ⦗829⦘ He said: “I am Muhammad ibn Abdullah. Allah created His creation and placed me among the best of His creation. Then He made them into two groups and placed me in the best of those groups. Then He made them into tribes and placed me in the best of those tribes. Then He made them into households and placed me in the best of those households. Thus, I am the best of you in person and the best of you in household.” Abu Isa recorded it.
