1377 — ʿIsa ibn ʿAli informed us: ʿAbd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Baghawi informed us. He said: Ziyad ibn Ayyub narrated to us. He said: Saʿid—that is, Ibn ʿAmir—narrated to us. He said: Harb ibn Maymun, a trustworthy Muslim, narrated to us, from Khuwail, Shubah’s brother-in-law.

1378 — Ahmad ibn ʿUbayd informed us. He said: ʿAli ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Mubashshir informed us. He said: Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us. He said: Saʿid ibn ʿAmir narrated to us, from Harb ibn Maymun, known as Sahib al-Aghmiya, from Khuwail, Shubah’s brother-in-law. Shubah was married to his sister. He said:

“I was with Yunus ibn ʿUbayd when a man came and said, ‘O Abu ʿAbd Allah, you forbid us from keeping company with Amr, yet your son has gone in to see him.’

He said, ‘My son?’

The man replied, ‘Yes.’ The shaykh became angry. I did not leave until his son came, and he said, ‘My dear son, you know my view regarding Amr, yet you still go in to see him?’

He replied, ‘So-and-so was with me,’ and began offering excuses.

Yunus said, ‘I forbid you from fornication, theft, and drinking wine; yet I would prefer that you meet ⦗818⦘ Allah having committed those sins rather than meet Him holding the views of Amr and Amr’s companions.’”
