1361 — ‘Ubayd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad informed us; Hamzah ibn Muhammad ibn al-‘Abbas informed us. He said: Isma‘il ibn Ishaq narrated to us. He said: ‘Ali ibn al-Madini narrated to us. He said: I heard Mu‘adh ibn Mu‘adh, when he returned from Harun during the visit in which Harun had granted him leave, say:

“The Commander of the Faithful said to me, ‘By Allah, I did not summon you because of any grievance I held against you; rather, I have always wished to see you and become acquainted with you.’ Then he asked, ‘Whose testimony have you rejected?’

I replied, ‘Commander of the Faithful, that of the Qadariyyah and the Mu‘tazilah.’

He said, ‘You have judged correctly. May Allah grant you success.’”
