1297—Al-Hasan ibn ‘Uthman informed us. Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ziyad informed us. ‘Abd Allah ibn Rawh related to us. Shababah related to us. Al-Hakam ibn ‘Umar related to us: Khalid ibn ‘Abd Allah sent me to Qatadah, while he was in al-Jizah, to ask him about certain questions. Among the matters I asked him, I said: “Tell me about the saying of Allah: ‘Indeed, those who believe, the Jews, the Sabians, the Christians, the Magians, and those who associate others with Allah’ [al-Hajj 22:17]. Are they the Arab polytheists?” He said: “No. Rather, they are the distinct heretics who ascribed partners to Allah in His creation. They said, ‘Allah creates good, while Satan creates evil, and Allah has no power over Satan.’”
١٢٩٧ - أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، قَالَ: ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ رَوْحٍ، قَالَ: ثنا شَبَابَةُ، قَالَ: ثنا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: أَرْسَلَنِي خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ إِلَى قَتَادَةَ وَهُوَ بِالْجِيْزَةِ أَسْأَلُهُ عَنْ مَسَائِلَ، فَكَانَ فِيمَا سَأَلْتُ، قُلْتُ: أَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ: ﴿إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَالَّذِينَ هَادُوا وَالصَّابِئِينَ وَالنَّصَارَى وَالْمَجُوسَ وَالَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوا﴾ [الحج: ١٧] ، هُمْ مُشْرِكُو الْعَرَبِ؟ قَالَ: لَا، وَلَكِنَّهُمُ الزَّنَادِقَةُ الْمُبَايِنَةُ الَّذِينَ جَعَلُوا لِلَّهِ شُرَكَاءَ فِي خَلْقِهِ، فَقَالُوا: إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَخْلُقُ الْخَيْرَ، وَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَخْلُقُ الشَّرَّ، وَلَيْسَ لِلَّهِ عَلَى الشَّيْطَانِ قُدْرَةٌ
