1284 — Muhammad ibn Ja‘far al-Naḥwī informed us: Abu Muhammad al-‘Atakī narrated to us: Yamūt ibn Ziyād ibn al-Muzarri‘ narrated to us: Asad ibn Mu‘ādh narrated to us:
A man asked Abu ‘Amr ibn al-‘Alā’ for a favor, and he promised to grant it. The following morning, the man came early to Abu ‘Amr ibn al-‘Alā’ to claim what he had been promised. Abu ‘Amr said to him, “You asked me for a favor, and I promised it to you. You left rejoicing, while I spent the night anxious over fulfilling it. Then an excuse prevented me from doing so, doubling my distress. Then you came to me early to claim it, and I met you with an apology, remaining abashed.”
