1272—Al-Qasim informed us; Jesus ibn Ibrahim informed us. He said: Al-Qasim ibn Nasr narrated to us; he said: Sa'id ibn Sulayman al-Nashiti narrated to us; he said: Jarir ibn Hazim narrated to us; he said: Yahya ibn 'Atiq narrated to us:

Salim ibn Qutaybah and I were in the house of Muhammad ibn Sirin. Salim said, “We would dearly like to know Muhammad ibn Sirin’s view concerning divine decree.” ⦗763⦘

A man then entered, and we said, “Ask him what he says concerning divine decree.” The man asked him. Muhammad lowered his head, and we too lowered our heads in silence. Then Muhammad said to him, “Who prompted you to ask it?” He remained silent for a while, then said, “Satan has no authority; rather, whoever obeys him, he leads astray.”
