Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman informed us; he said: Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Abd al-Aziz al-Baghawi informed us; he said: Qatan ibn Nusayr narrated to us; he said: Ja‘far ibn Sulayman narrated to us; he said: Abu Sinan narrated to us:
Wahb ibn Munabbih and Ata al-Khurasani met in Mecca. Ata said to him, “O Abu Abd Allah, it has reached me that you have written about the divine decree.” Wahb replied, “I have not written any books, nor have I spoken about the divine decree.” Then Wahb said, “I have read more than ninety of God’s books, of which more than seventy are manifest, though only a few people know them. ⦗757⦘ In all of them I found that whoever attributes any measure of volition to himself has disbelieved.”
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ الْبَغَوِيُّ، قَالَ: ثنا قَطَنُ بْنُ نُسَيْرٍ، قَالَ: ثنا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، قَالَ: ثنا أَبُو سِنَانٍ قَالَ: اجْتَمَعَ وَهْبُ بْنُ مُنَبِّهٍ وَعَطَاءٌ الْخُرَاسَانِيُّ بِمَكَّةَ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَطَاءٌ: يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بَلَغَنِي عَنْكَ أَنَّكَ كَتَبْتَ فِي الْقَدَرِ، قَالَ وَهْبٌ: مَا كَتَبْتُ كُتُبًا وَلَا تَكَلَّمَتْ فِي الْقَدَرِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ وَهْبٌ: قَرَأْتُ نَيِّفًا وَتِسْعِينَ كِتَابًا مِنْ كُتُبِ اللَّهِ مِنْهَا نَيِّفٌ ⦗٧٥٧⦘ وَسَبْعُونَ ظَاهِرَةٌ لَا يَعْلَمُهَا إِلَّا قَلِيلٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ فَوَجَدْتُ فِيهَا كُلِّهَا أَنَّ كُلَّ مِنْ وَكَّلَ إِلَى نَفْسِهِ شَيْئًا مِنَ الْمَشِيئَةِ فَقَدْ كَفَرَ
