1239 — Al-Hasan ibn Uthman informed us; he said: Ahmad ibn Hamdan narrated to us; he said: Bishr narrated to us; he said: Mu'awiyah narrated to us; he said: Abu Ishaq narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Unaysah, from Yazid ibn Abi Habib, from Abu al-Aswad al-Du'ali, who said:

I asked Imran ibn Husayn about the matter of divine decree. He replied: “If Allah were to punish the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth, He would punish them without being unjust to them. And if He were to show mercy to the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth, His mercy would be more expansive than that. Were a man to possess gold equal to Mount Uhud and spend it in the way of Allah, yet not believe in the good and evil of divine decree, it would not be accepted from him.”
