1233 — Ja'far ibn Abd Allah ibn Ya'qub informed us: Muhammad ibn Harun al-Ruyani informed us; Ali ibn Sahl narrated to us; al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us; Uthman ibn Abi al-Atikah narrated to us; Sulayman ibn Habib al-Muharibi narrated to me, from al-Walid ibn Ubadah ibn al-Samit, from Ubadah, whose son Abd al-Rahman said to him, “O Ubadah, give me counsel.” ⦗746⦘ He said, “Seat me,” so they seated him. Then he said, “My son, fear Allah. You will not truly fear Allah until you believe in the divine decree, and you will not believe in the divine decree until you believe in its good and its evil, and know that what befell you could not have missed you, and what missed you could not have befallen you. I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say: ‘The divine decree is as I have described; whoever dies holding any belief other than this, Allah will admit him into the Fire.’”
