1232 — Ali ibn Umar ibn Ibrahim informed us; Ismail ibn ⦗745⦘ Muhammad informed us; Abbas ibn Muhammad informed us; Ubayd Allah ibn Musa narrated to us; Sufyan narrated to us, from Sa'id ibn Yasar, from Wahb ibn Khalid al-Himsi, from Ibn al-Daylami, who said:

I came to Ubayy ibn Ka'b and said, “Abu al-Mundhir, something concerning this divine decree has entered my heart, so tell me something by which perhaps Allah may remove it from me.” He said, “If Allah were to punish the inhabitants of His heavens and the inhabitants of His earth, He would punish them without being unjust to them. And if He were to show them mercy, His mercy would be better for them than their deeds. Even if you were to spend gold equal to Mount Uhud in the path of Allah, it would not be accepted from you until you believe in the divine decree and know that what befell you could not have missed you, and that what missed you could not have befallen you. If you die holding any belief other than this, you will enter the Fire.”

He said: Then I came to Ibn Mas'ud, and he narrated to me the like of this. Then I came to Hudhayfah, and he narrated to me the like of this. Then I came to Zayd ibn Thabit, and he narrated to me the like of this from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
