1208 — Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Umar informed us: Ahmad ibn Khalid al-Haruri informed us. He said: Muhammad ibn Humayd narrated to us. He said: Yaqub ibn Abd Allah narrated to us, from Jafar ⦗736⦘ ibn Abi al-Mughirah, from Ibn Abza, who said:

Umar came, and he was told, “Some people are discussing the divine decree.” He then rose to address the people and said, “O people, those before you were only destroyed over the matter of divine decree. By Him in whose Hand is Umar’s soul, if I hear of two men discussing it, I will strike off their heads.”

He said: The people therefore refrained, and no one spoke of it until the upstart of Syria appeared.
