1202 — Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Abdullah informed us; Ismail ibn Muhammad informed us; Muhammad ibn Ubaydullah ibn Abi Dawud narrated to us; Yunus ibn Muhammad narrated to us; al-Mu'tamir ibn Sulayman narrated to us, from his father, from Yahya ibn Ya'mar, who said:
There was a man from Juhaynah who had a violent disposition and would assault his neighbors. Then he read the Quran, studied the obligatory duties, and related accounts to the people. Eventually, he came to claim that human actions arise anew: whoever wishes does good, and whoever wishes does evil. I met Abu al-Aswad al-Du'ali and mentioned this to him, whereupon he said: “He has lied. We did not see any of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ except that he affirmed divine decree.”
