And I heard Abdullah ibn Umar say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to say, “Everything is by divine decree, even incapacity and resourcefulness.”
The version in al-Muwatta, from Malik, from Ziyad ibn Sa'd, from Amr, from Tawus, states: “I met a number of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him . . . . . .” Muslim also transmitted it—and its narration has already preceded.
