84—Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Ali ibn Hamid informed us: Ahmad ibn al-Sari ibn Salih narrated to us; Ya'qub ibn Sufyan narrated to us; Sa'id ibn Abi Maryam narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us; Musa ibn Uqbah narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from Abu al-Ahwas, from Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“There are only two things: speech and guidance. The finest speech is the speech of Allah, and the finest guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. Beware of newly introduced matters, for the worst matters are those newly introduced. Every newly introduced matter is an innovation. Beware lest the passage of time grow long for you and your hearts become hardened.”
