and then, if Allah wills, He will admit you into the Fire. By Allah, were it not for a covenant of protection granted to you, I would have struck off your neck.” He said: The people then dispersed, and not two of them differed concerning divine decree.

Shaykh Abū al-Qāsim al-Ḥāfiẓ said: If there is any consensus in this world established through widespread acceptance without objection, then it is in this matter. Whoever opposes their position regarding it is a stubborn opponent, one who splits from the way; the warning applies to him, and he falls under His saying:

“Whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows a path other than that of the believers, We will leave him to that which he has chosen and burn him in Hell—an evil destination.” [al-Nisāʾ 4:115]

فَيُدْخِلُكَ النَّارَ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ، أَمَا وَاللَّهِ لَوْلَا وَلْثُ عَهْدٍ لَكَ لَضَرَبْتُ عُنُقَكَ، قَالَ: فَتَفَرَّقَ النَّاسُ وَمَا يَخْتَلِفُ فِي الْقَدَرِ اثْنَانِ. قَالَ الشَّيْخُ أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ الْحَافِظُ: فَإِنْ كَانَ فِي الدُّنْيَا إِجْمَاعٌ بِانْتِشَارٍ مِنْ غَيْرِ إِنْكَارٍ، فَهُوَ فِي هَذِهِ الْمَسْأَلَةِ فَمَنْ خَالَفَ قَوْلَهُ فِيهَا فَهُوَ مُعَانِدٌ مُشَاقِقٌ يَلْحَقَ بِهُ الْوَعِيدُ وَهُوَ دَاخِلٌ تَحْتَ قَوْلِهِ: ﴿وَمَنْ يُشَاقِقِ الرَّسُولَ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُ الْهُدَى وَيَتْبَعْ غَيْرَ سَبِيلِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ نُوَلِّهِ مَا تَوَلَّى وَنُصْلِهِ جَهَنَّمَ وَسَاءَتْ مَصِيرًا﴾ [النساء: ١١٥]
