1187—ʿUbayd Allah informed us. He said: ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Jahm narrated to us. He said: Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAmrūs narrated to us. He said: Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah said: “I heard a Bedouin clinging to the House saying:

‘My God, who is more deserving of error and falling short than I, when You created me weak? And who is more deserving of pardon than You, when Your decree encompasses all things? I obeyed You by Your command, so the favour is Yours; and I disobeyed You with Your knowledge, so the proof is Yours. Thus, by the failure of my proof and the binding force of Your proof, by my need of You and Your freedom from need of me, I ask You to forgive me for what I have violated of Your sacred limits.’”
