1186—ʿUbayd Allah ibn Aḥmad informed us. He said: Muḥammad ibn Hārūn al-Ḥaḍramī narrated to us. He said: Yaʿqūb ibn Isḥāq narrated to us. He said: ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Zubayr al-Makkī narrated to us. He said: A man said to Ibn ʿUyaynah, “Abū Muḥammad, there is a man here who denies the divine decree.” He said, “And what does he say? I heard a Bedouin at the Standing say:
“O Allah, I set out toward You, and You brought me forth; I came before You, and You brought me here. I obeyed You by Your command, so all praise is due to You from me; and I disobeyed You with Your knowledge, so the proof is Yours against me. Thus, by the force of Your proof against me and the failure of any proof on my part, I ask You not to send me back today except with my sin forgiven.”
