1102—Muhammad ibn al-Husayn al-Farisi informed us. He said: Ahmad ibn Sa'id al-Thaqafi informed us. He said: Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Dhuhali narrated to us. He said: Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us. He said: Ma'mar informed us, from al-Zuhri and from Ibn Tawus, from his father. They said: Jesus, son of Mary, encountered Iblis and said, “Do you not know that nothing will befall you except what has been decreed for you?”

Iblis replied, “Then stand upon the summit of this mountain and throw yourself down from it, and see whether you live or not.”

Ibn Tawus, from his father, said: “Do you not know that Allah Most High says: ‘My servant must not put Me to the test, for I do whatever I will’?”

He said: Al-Zuhri then said, “A servant does not put his Lord to the test; rather, Allah tests His servant.” He said: Thus he refuted him.
