1096—Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman informed us. He said: Yahya ibn Muhammad ibn Sa'id narrated to us. He said: Muhammad ibn al-Walid Abu Ja'far narrated to us. He said: Yahya ibn Maymun ibn Ata, Abu Ayyub al-Tammar, narrated to us. He said: Ali ibn Zayd ibn Jud'an narrated to us, from Abu Nadrah, from Abu Sa'id, who said:

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to Abdullah ibn Abbas: “O young boy—or, O little boy—shall I not teach you something by which Allah may benefit you? Be mindful of Allah, and He will protect you. Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him before you. When you ask, ask Allah; and when you seek help, seek help from Allah. Know Allah in times of ease, and He will know you in times of hardship. The Pen has already written what is to occur. If people were to gather together to give you something that Allah had not given you, they would not be able to do so; and if people were to gather together to withhold from you something that Allah had decreed and written for you, they would not be able to do so. So worship Allah with patience and certainty. Indeed, with hardship comes ease; indeed, with hardship comes ease.”
