1089—Ahmad ibn Ubayd informed us. Ali ibn Abdullah ibn Mubashshir informed us. He said: Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us. He said: Yazid narrated to us. He said: Humayd informed us, from Anas, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said:
“Do not be hasty in judging anyone until you see how his life ends. A person may perform righteous deeds for a period of his life—or for a span of time—such that, were he to die in that state, he would enter Paradise; then he changes and performs evil deeds. And a servant may perform evil deeds for a period of his life such that, were he to die in that state, he would enter the Fire; then he changes and performs righteous deeds. When Allah intends good for a servant, He employs him in it before his death.”
It was asked, “Messenger of Allah, how does He employ him?” He said, “He grants him success to perform a righteous deed, then causes him to die upon it.”
