1067—And Abd Allah ibn Muslim ibn Yahya informed us: al-Husayn ibn Isma'il informed us: Ahmad ibn al-Miqdam narrated to us: al-Mu'tamir ibn Sulayman narrated to us: I heard Abu Sufyan narrating from Abd Allah ibn Dinar, who narrated from Abd Allah ibn Umar that he said:
When the verse was revealed, “Among them are the wretched and the blessed,” [Hud: 105], Umar said, “O Prophet of Allah, upon what basis do we act: upon a matter that has already been decided, or one that has not yet been decided?” ⦗663⦘
He said, “No; rather, it is upon a matter that has already been decided and concerning which the pens have run. Yet every person will be facilitated: ‘As for he who gives and is mindful of Allah, and believes in the finest reward, We will ease his way toward ease. But as for he who is miserly and considers himself self-sufficient, and denies the finest reward, We will ease his way toward hardship.’” [al-Layl: 6]
